WHAT TO EXPECT when booking a shoot with Chelsea Kahle Photography. Below is a break down of some frequently asked questions. Please note these topics will also be discussed during our pre-session consultation.

What are the different types of photos you provide in a session?

This is a very common question. In a typical family or newborn shoot I will capture numerous types of different poses and family groupings.

The most common family groupings we will capture are:

  • Shots of the entire family (pets are even welcome).

  • Siblings

  • Mommy/Daddy and Me shots

  • individual portrait shots of the children

    • For a newborn we will capture a couple different looks for their solo shots.

  • Husband and Wife

Where will our photoshoot take place?

FAMILY & MATERNITY:

I have scouted numerous beautiful locations all around Orange County for photo shoots. Most of my sessions take place at the park, trail, beach, or an in-home session. If you have a specific location in mind or type of scenery you are envisioning, let me know! I can help facilitate choosing the perfect location for your photo shoot. If you’re unsure, I can recommend some of my favorite spots based on the time and weather.

NEWBORN SESSIONS:

Whether you decide to have a cozy in-home session or a dreamy outdoor session, I will work with you to ensure your vision is captured. For in-home sessions I typically will shoot in the master bedroom, nursery or living room, but can be any where at your home. Keep an eye out for the rooms that get the best natural lighting. Adequate lighting is key for in-home sessions. To be helpful prior to your session, please remove clutter from the area of the scene you wish to stage.

what are your mini session details?

I advertise mini sessions seasonally.

  • Spring mini sessions are typically right before Easter or Mother’s day. I love shooting mommy and me or family sessions in the spring because the wild flowers are in bloom and the grasses are green.

  • Summer mini sessions are typically held at the beach. Summer is the only time I offer family beach mini sessions. So keep your eye out for these!

  • Fall/Winter mini sessions are my most popular for family photos and fill up quickly. This is prime time to get those updated family photos for your holiday cards. I typically offer two/three different dates for these sessions.

The sessions are typically 20 minutes. We work together to capture family photos, sibling photos, and any other desired poses/family groupings you desire. I provide 30 hand edited images, available via download and I do offer the option to purchase an entire gallery of 80-100 images for an additional fee. Check out the pricing page for more information. The location will be pre-determined and advertised at the time of booking.

What should we wear?

If you are struggling to figure out what to wear, don’t worry I am here to help! Outfits and color schemes are something we will also discuss during our pre-session consultation. Below are some helpful tips when trying to figure out your family’s wardrobe.

  • NEUTRAL, SOLID COLORS photograph the absolute best!

  • Avoid crazy, colorful patterns. If one family member is wearing a dress or shirt with a pattern or print on it, try and have the rest of the family in solid colors to avoid too much clashing.

  • Pick a color scheme! I love Pinterest for this. Find a color scheme you love and start planning from there.

  • For the ladies: I am a huge fan of long flowy dresses or jeans and a flowy tops. Wear something that gives “motion” to your images.

  • For the Gentleman: I recommend jeans or neutral colored slacks/shorts with a solid t-shirt or button up.

  • Newborns: I recommend a simple onesies or romper.

  • Children and babies: Keep it simple for the kids! Solid, rompers, flowy dressed (floral patters are great too), button up and jeans for the boys.

When in doubt keep it simple, solid colors and a max of one pattern and your family will look fantastic!

what happens after our photoshoot?

I will send you a sneak peak 24-48 hours after your photo shoot. You’re welcome to tag and share these photos! This preview will give you an idea of what you will see in your full set. Approximately 2 weeks after your session, you'll receive an email from me with a link to your password-protected online gallery. The high-resolution jpgs can be downloaded directly from the gallery and additional prints/products can be purchased through my professional (and personally highly recommended!) lab.

what should I Prepare?

For the littles ones, bring along some non-messy snacks and treats. Bribery works and is used often! Also, wipes come in handy for those dirty hands, runny noses, and baby spit up. If your child has a favorite toy, bring that too!

Consider packing a brush, lip gloss, backup clothes, and water.
